  • My Toddler Has Other Plans

We had a little ball pit in the living room at one point. Seemed like a good idea. A little sensory play for him and, apparently, immediate sensory practice for Mom too.

He did help clean most of it up, but this blind mom still ended up crawling around the floor, feeling for every last stray ball within arm’s reach.

Apparently, the sensory experience was a family package.

I can have the day planned in my head. He has his own ideas. I’m learning to leave a little room for those too, because we’re both figuring this out as we go.

Even the cleanup has its little lessons. He’s learning how to help, and I’m learning to give him room to try. We get to do it together, even if my part involves a little more crawling than I had in mind.

Some days I can laugh about it right away. Some days I need a minute. I’m learning to be a little easier on myself and enjoy the small things along the way. Him helping. Us playing. Having a story to tell once everything’s picked up.

That’s the kind of stuff I want to share on the Crayons side of CCC. The everyday parenting moments, the little lessons our kids teach us, and the things we’d laugh about with a friend.

I’m sure somebody else is picking up the same balls.
