  • You’re Allowed to Restart the Day

My sponsor reminds me that I can restart the day as many times as I want to.

Good. Because some days need more than one attempt.

Between school, parenting, and figuring out life as a blind woman, I’m learning a lot about adapting. I’m also learning that being grateful for how far I’ve come doesn’t mean every day will feel easy. I can appreciate my progress and still need a minute.

Being in the moment helps put a little reset button on my mood. There’s something about slowing down enough to just be. Listening to the birds. Taking a breath. Letting that moment be its own thing instead of another item on the list.

Sometimes a restart can be as simple as putting something down for a minute, eating something, or reaching out to someone who gets it. The next step doesn’t have to be impressive. It just has to be something I can manage.

The to-do list may still be rude afterward. We’re working on that.

What I like about my sponsor’s reminder is that there’s no particular hour attached to it. A morning can be rough and the afternoon can still have something good in it. I don’t have to finish the day exactly where I started.

That’s part of the Comebacks side of CCC I want to make room for. Recovery, mental health, rebuilding, and the everyday effort of giving ourselves another chance. Some of that progress is small enough that nobody else sees it.

I’m trying to give myself credit for it anyway.

And if the restart needs a restart? Apparently, we’re allowed.
